“Change”. The word that changed the course of the Democratic nomination and swept aside a powerful woman, Hillary Clinton. “Change” had enough ammunition and energy, it ran its full course till the clash on the election day with McCain. It also ensured Barack Obama become first Non-White to reach the white house.
McCain even though looked to regain lost ground after the selection of Sarah Palin as his deputy on the nomination day, lost ground within days as a financial crisis hit the US financial market. Barack Obama repeatedly used McCain speech on US economy in which McCain stated that US posseses strong economic base and questioned McCain judgement and his ability to solve the economic crisis.
Sarah Palin selection misfired in days as many questioned McCain’s choice. Sarah Palin too found wanting in her very first interview. When I saw the interview, I was screaming in my mind -”For GOD sake let her go and Have mercy on the poor soul”. She looked like a school student said one newspaper. Sarah Palin approval rating went downhill as days progressed.
As all the elecction opinion polls predicted, Obama won quiet easily. A heavy loss for McCain.
Obama has brought in hope not only to US but to those countries which US is considered as tormentor. He is inspirational to many not only in US but even in the distant worlds like Kenya. He has promised change. Change, he promises, that will make US once again as a leader in the World. The expectation is huge. It may be difficult to fulfill such a huge expectation. But the start is good. The security team he has assembled contains his ex-rival Hillary Clinton as secretary of state. He has selected people who have very strong background. Not much political nominations. Good start.
On the election night, Barcak Obama said Change has come to America. Hope it lasts long.
